SPONSOR A SPECIAL NEEDS ANIMAL!

Do you have room in your heart but not in your home? Sponsor a rescue animal with special needs – one that is hard to adopt because of age, illness, injury, trauma, shyness or a variety of other conditions. For instance, a cat with diabetes typically requires a special diet and may require daily insulin injections and regular blood testing. A traumatized cat may have been abused or injured and now finds it difficult to trust humans which results in shyness or unreliable behavior.

CECE

Domestic Shorthair, Female
Color: Dilute tortie
Size: Medium
Age: unknown
Special needs: none

Exotic, beautiful and friendly describes our dilute tortie girl, CeCe. Her former caregiver recently had to relocate to another town in housing that did not permit pets. She wanted the best for CeCe so she brought her to us.

This little gal is friendly and outgoing. Very affectionate, she loves being a lap cat and being groomed. Her favorite thing is to sleep on the bed with her person. She is quite playful, enjoying a variety of cat toys and hunting down bugs and moths.

Like most tortie girls CeCe is not fond of other cats, so would do best being the only cat in a household. She has not had any exposure to living with a dog, but most torties will accept a dog who will either allow her to be the queen of the house, or is not interested in her comings and goings.

CeCe is going to be a great addition to the right family. If you are a lover of torties you will want to come see if that family is yours.

PFOA Update
March, 2018

The estate items we mentioned in our last eNews are now posted on the site. Beautiful paperweights, vases and glassware are available. The sale of these items benefits our rescues. Please note that there is a 15% surcharge added. Go to ctonlineauctions.com, select Zipcode within 5 Miles and enter Sequim zip code 98382.

Tickets for our April 7th Catnip and Sip Tea, Fashion Show and Auction at Sunland Golf and Country Club will be available for purchase beginning this Friday, 3/9 at Safe Haven and also at the Allstate Insurance office at 440 W. Bell in Sequim. The ticket price is $35.00.

We are in need of items for our live and silent auctions. We’re looking for treasures for our auction gift baskets–dog and cat toys, dog chews, special cookies & chocolate and chicken themed items, garden items. Gift Certificates and higher end live auction items would also be appreciated. If you can donate something, call (360) 452-0414, ext. 3 or email pfoa@olypen.com.

Spring is around the corner and we need volunteers to help with a variety of clean up chores and getting ready for mowing, etc. We always need socializers too to spend time with all of our loving rescues including kittens that will be coming soon.

Thank you. We look forward to seeing you at Sunland on April 7th!

If you wish to be removed from our email list, just reply “no thanks.” If you want to be removed from all communications, please reply “all.”

TONY

TONY is a sweet, gentle guy who survived a house fire. Unfortunately, his owner did not. Tony was the center of his owner’s life for 13 years and it shows. Tony has had a full dentistry procedure and feels so much better. He enjoys his sock filled with catnip, and responds to gentle coaxing. He has been with us now for over three years, living with Tippy in the office area. He is on a special diet, and has recently started to require fluids several times a week. It is likely that he will remain at Safe Haven for the rest of his life, where he can receive the special care he requires.

TIPPY

TIPPY was born in May, 2004 and came to PFOA in June, 2004. He is a beautiful orange and white tabby with a sweet personality. However, he has a neurological problem, perhaps from his mother suffering distemper when she was pregnant or from poisoning or from a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Tippy walks with an unsteady, wobbly gait but it doesn’t slow him down. He pulls himself up into a chair to get a better view of the goings on and gets around quite well, though he has the occasional spill; hence these kitties are affectionately known as the “wobblies”. He enjoys playing and attention. He has become Safe Haven’s office cat as his extra care and occasional incontinence make it unlikely he will be adopted. He has been placed twice, and was returned because he is unhappy when not at Safe Haven.

THISTLE

THISTLE was born in March, 2003 and came to PFOA in July, 2003. He now lives at Barker House. He is a sleek, poly-dactyl neutered male with magnificent copper colored eyes and a sweet expression. He has diabetes and receives insulin shots. Thistle especially enjoys sitting on the back of the couch, both for the view and the closeness to his human friends.

MAXWELL

MAXWELL is an adorable Shih Tzu/Chihuahua mix used as a breeding dog. Maxwell has an enlarged heart that makes him adoption challenged. His chances of living to be an old dog are quite slim, but he is happy and loved in his foster home where he receives the best of care and lives with a companion dog rescued from the same home.

MARTHA

MARTHA was born in May, 2001 and came to PFOA in February, 2002. She loves attention and “talks” to the volunteers who regularly visit her. She was recently placed in a foster home, where she has adjusted well and has a happy home.

MARCUS

MARCUS is a handsome, gentle Maine Coon. He was born in May, 2001 and came to PFOA in July, 2011 because his owner could no longer care for him. He is a beautiful and sweet long-haired tabby. However, he is diabetic and requires insulin shots. He lives at Barker House.

MAILE

MAILE is a sweetie who was trapped and adopted out in 2004 with her brother Keiki. They were timid as kittens and required a lot of attention to socialize. They were adopted out twice and brought back due to illness of their owners and inability to give them the attention they needed. Both were traumatized by two adoptions but have blossomed in their foster home. Maili is described as an acrobat and loves to play with her tail while hanging upside down. She is small and sleek but remains timid.

LUCY-ALICE

LUCY-ALICE, shown with her “pet snake,” is a beautiful Manx who was adopted from Safe Haven in early 2011. Some Manx have a problem with bowel and bladder control due to the spinal issues associated with the loss of a tail. These problems did not present themselves until she became older and the family had problems with the incontinence. She was returned to us and is now happily residing at Barker House, our special-needs shelter just east of Sequim, where she is loved by all.

KEIKI

KEIKI is a bigger boy and is the alpha male of the cats. He has a tail that wraps up his back like a Pomeranian so has been labeled a “pom-ese”. He is a big, lean cat and greets everyone that comes into the cat room. He follows his foster and leans on her like a dog. Except for Maile, you might say he “rules”.

FREDDY

FREDDY is a large 4-year-old Shih Tzu/Pomeranian mix that was sold as a small puppy. After being returned to the breeder and rescued by PFOA, his family was located and his history of biting and running away was discovered. Freddy proved to have a badly broken tooth that was extremely painful and caused him to bite when children tried to take toys from him. Even with the painful tooth removed, his naughty habits have continued and make him a risk in the average home. Freddy will live out his life with his friend Maxwell in foster care where he loves to run and play and carry a special toy at all times.

FAGIN

FAGIN was born in April, 2003 and has been at Safe Haven since July, 2003. He is a green-eyed, short-haired black male who can best be described as a “big lug” full of love. He “head butts” and leans into his human and feline friends to show his affection. He likes brushing and belly rubs on occasion, too. Fagin is currently under dietary restriction in an attempt to lose some excess weight. He is part of a package deal with his brother Thistle as these two are firmly bonded. He currently lives out at Barker House.

EBONY

EBONY is the matron of her foster family. She is a senior black cat described as “patent leather with green eyes”. A timid cat with unknown people, but she rules other cats without a problem. A smaller sleek cat, she loves to play with toys and seeks attention from her foster mom. She remains playful though she has arthritis and takes medications for that. Being an older sister to Beau, she also has the family dental issues.

BUCKY

BUCKY is a male Lhasa Apso purchased from a pet store and sold as an 8-week-old puppy. Originally from a puppy mill, Bucky chased cats, fought with other dogs, nipped care-takers, resisted potty training and generally misbehaved. After 11 homes, he has found a wonderful foster home willing to accept his naughtiness and keep him from harm’s way. While mostly loving and affectionate, Bucky’s unpredictability makes him unsuitable for adoption, so he will remain in PFOA’s care for his protection.

BOBBIE JO

BOBBIE JO is an adorable special-needs Manx kitty. She came to us in the fall of 2012 when we received a call from an elderly gentleman that there was a kitten dying under his deck. When we arrived, we found a tiny kitten in a real mess, but she had no intention of dying – this little girl is a fighter! Bobbie has done very well, but as is common with some Manx cats, she does not have good bowel and bladder control. While this has greatly improved, she still requires special care and attention, and will probably do so for the rest of her life.

BEAU

BEAU is a beautiful senior kitty. He was trapped along with his siblings in the Diamond Point area. At that time, Safe Haven was full and he was kept by his trapper as a foster kitten. He isn’t described as a cuddly cat in his home of 10 cats, but he does love his foster mom. He has some upcoming dental issues that need attention but is otherwise healthy.

BABY WAYNE

Longhair male
Color: Black with some white (tuxedo)
Size: Large
Born: August, 2013 (approx)
Special needs: none

Meet Baby Wayne, a stunning long-haired tuxedo cat. Baby Wayne came from the same home as Sir Chuck, however they are not bonded and can be adopted separately. This handsome boy is very vibrant and incredibly easy to get along with. He loves people and thrives on being petted. He’s very difficult to photograph because all he wants to do is butt heads, jump in your lap and be held. He would be a wonderful addition to any cat loving family. We hope you will come and meet our Baby Wayne – he’s definitely worth the trip!
